Hello,
We flew to Krabi, Thailand for a 4d 3n stay recently. This is our first time flying with our 1 1/2y old son, so we're not entirely certain what to expect. We don't want to be those parents whose children is crying or screaming on the plane ;). Luckily, our flight from KL - Krabi took only 45 minutes.
I was a little anxious beforehand about our first trip but it ended up being just fine. It was not as hard as I feared :). Take a deep breath mommies. Flying with an infant is generally pretty easy. You'll be surprised. Here are suggested packing list and tips for your 'travel bug' -
Clothing/Accessories
- Day clothes - Long & short sleeves shirt, sleeveless shirt, long & short trousers and plenty of outfits.
- Outer wear - Jacket, light weight sweater, hat or cap and socks especially for seasonal travel.
- Sleep suits or pyjamas - pack one set of pj's per day plus two or three extras.
- Swimsuit (1-2 pcs).
- Sandals and shoes.
Diapering
- Diapers - unless if you are willing to spend ±370 Thai Baht (approximately RM37) for only 17 pcs of diapers ;)
- Changing pad - to put under your toddler during diaper changes.
- Wet wipes - not only cleans baby bottom but also can be used for cleaning hands, faces, and even blotting stains and spills.
- Diaper cream/ointment - carry a small tube for rashes or bug bites.
- Plastic bags - for disposing dirty diapers.
- Disposable swim diapers - I used Huggies 'Little Swimmers' (bought at Cold Storage).
Feeding
- Baby Bottles
- Formula milk
- Baby food - cereal/porridge/rice
- Snacks and finger foods - for your baby and yourself too
- Lightweight plastic feeding set with utensils
- Empty sippy cup (drinks can be purchased once you get through security). The sucking can help with ear pressure during take-off and landing.
- Baby bottle brush and liquid soap
- Sterilizing tablets
- Food warmer - bought this from www.groupon.my
Electric Lunch Box - Heat & Stores Food
Toiletries/Bath
- Baby head to toe wash
- Baby oil, powder & lotion
- Comb/Brush
- Towels
- Tooth brush and tooth paste
- Sunblock - I used Buds Baby Organic Solar Care Lotion, SPF 25. For more details, visit www.budsbaby.com
Bedding
- Small pillow
- Blanket - also for cold planes, to cover up when nursing, etc.
Medication/First Aid
- Thermometer
- Nasal Spray
- Mosquito repellant liquid/spray - I used Pureen Rekito mosquito repellant spray
- Prescribe medicine e.g. fever, cough, cold, diarrhea, etc.
Baby Gear - I don't bring collapsible stroller and carrier, my baby really hates 'em :(
Toys & Books - Bring plenty of toys that don't have easy-to-lose parts.
Carry-on bag:
- Change shirt - for you and your little one.
- Bottles - enough to make it through the flight plus 2-3 extra (fill in some water in it to mix with hot water & milk).
- Hot water - in the thermos.
- Formula milk - pre measured into a plastic container with serving dividers.
- Diapers - enough to make it through the flight plus 2-3 extra.
- Wet wipes.
- Changing pad.
- Plastic bag for dirty diapers.
*Packing Tips
- Start preparing to pack a few days before you travel. Keep a running list of things to bring, or put items out on a table or dresser as you think of them.
- Use waterproof & shoulder strap diaper bag.
- Prevent leaks by packing medicines and toiletries in re-seal-able plastic bags.
- Keep your child's outfits together in one suitcase so you can find them easily.
- Take your camera — and don't forget the battery charger.
- Travel adapter.
Well, it was actually much easier because we start preparing a few days before and that our little bundle slept through the flight to our destination.
Happy travel!!
